Life After Alpha - Alumni News
Whether you attended Providence Heights Alpha for one year or your entire elementary and middle school experience, you will always be a part of the Alpha family. We are eager to hear from you, to learn of your accomplishments (did you get married, have a child, win an award, etc.) and of the ways Alpha prepared you for life after Alpha. We invite all our Alumni to submit an article for our "Alumni Update."

Sofia; Class of 2019
Sofia's essay, entitled “Accomplished. Sort Of.” was chosen as the best Creative Nonfiction piece in the Georgia Southern University "Fledge" Writing Contest for High School Writing. She was invited to read her piece at a presentation of the winning pieces and will be published in "Fledge," a publication of Georgia Southern University devoted to outstanding student compositions.

Anne Snyder; Class of 2017
Congratulations to Alumna Anne who was named Oakland Catholic High School's Valedictorian! She has committed to Villanova University as a Presidential Scholar. The Presidential Scholarship is given to 25 students annually and covers the cost of tuition, room and board, and books.

Chris Smith; Class of 2019
Not only is Chris an honors student at North Catholic but he was recently named the Boys Junior Varsity Soccer Offensive Player of the year!

Christina Patterson; Class of 2015
Christina went on to Vincentian Academy when when she graduated from Alpha. During her 4 years there, she received the Sisters of Nazareth of Charity Scholarship, the Seton Hill Women in Science Award for Math, the Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Merit, the Society of Women Engineers Next Local Innovator award, and the Northrop Gruman Community Award. She was also named part of the National Merit Scholarship Program. She co-founded a Society of Women Engineers club and still found time to act captain of the field hockey team and a member of student council.
In 2018, Christina earned the highest possible ACT composite score of 36. On average, only around one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score. Christina intends to major in mechanical engineering and minor in literature at university.

Ryan Ott; Class of 2005
Ryan went on to Sacred Heart High School and then Carnegie Mellon University after graduating from Alpha. Ryan currently works in advertising but has a variety of projects beyond work, including acting on the Carnegie stage and developing a TV pilot. Ryan has founded a company and is working with a team of developers on Lightmapp; a new type of mobile social network designed to allow users to connect with their city and local environment via interactive content in what appears to be a much more organic and dynamic fashion.

Sean McCarthy; Class of 2015
Sean went on to attend North Catholic High School after graduating from Alpha where he plays soccer for the Trojans. After graduation in 2019, he plans to attend college and major in computer science. In 2018, Sean achieved the Rank of Eagle Scout and was formally presented the award at a Court of Honor ceremony.

Megan DeArmit; Class of 2010
Currently a student at Robert Morris University studying Communications and Political Science, Megan was named a Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact. Megan is one of 273 students nationwide, and one of only three in Pittsburgh, to be chosen for the year-long student leadership development program

Tiffany Shick; Class of 2013
Tiffany graduated from Vincentian High school as Co-Valedictorian with another Alpha Alum. She has been a recipient of the Ben Carson Scholarship for 5 years and is currently a student at Tulane University.

Morgan Seiff; Class of 2013
Morgan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hampton High School where she was an AP Scholar, Senior Scholar, PTO 2017 English Awardee, 2016 Post Gazette Gene Kelly Critics Award/Scholarship winner, and recipient of the 4-year PSU Provost Scholarship. Morgan is currently a Schreyer Honors College student at Penn State University.
